The Kennesaw Chapter of the Order of the Arrow would like to invite you to the Foothills District Camporall. This event is designed for Boy Scout Units to invite Arrow of Light Scouts and Webelos to a weekend of Scouts BSA camping at Woodruff Scout Camp.

There will be game and activities for Scouts and Scouters alike to participate in all weekend or each troop can choose to come and camp and run their own program with their invited cub scouts, or any combination of events. This is a fantastic opportunity for AOL Scouts to meet their requirements of attending a troop outing and for troops to recruit new Scouts to their units.

Some of the adventures that await the scouts are :

  • Orienteering
  • Ultimate Frisbee
  • Ga Ga
  • Photo Scavenger Hunt
  • Dutch Oven Cooking Competition (Youth & Adult)
  • Campfire Skits, Songs, & more
  • & much much more!!!

The cost is $10 per Scout (Boy Scout, Webelos, Arrow of Light) & Adults – $2.00 which includes patch for every registered camper both youth and adult, and TONS of fun!

Troops need to invite Webelos & Arrow of Light Scouts to be their guests for the weekend. If you need help finding a pack or troop.

We had a great turn out even though I know there were some scouts who wanted to come who were unable to. Marietta 4th of July Let Freedom Ring Parade

Description: Marietta 4th of July Let Freedom Ring Parade
Location: Roswell Street Baptist Church (774 Roswell St, Marietta)
When: Thursday, July 4, 2019 9:30 AM (EDT) – 11:15 AM (EDT)

Additional information:
Join the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts & Venture Scouts in carrying the largest flag in Cobb County.
No registration. Just show up in full Class A uniform (required).

Scouts BSA, Cub Scouts, Venture Scouts, and adults will carry the largest flag while the Cub Scouts will carry a smaller (but still large) flag.

STARTING LOCATION: Meet at the parade staging area at the northwestern parking lot of the Roswell Street Baptist Church (774 Roswell St, Marietta, map link pinpoints starting point for the flag.) by 9:30 am or earlier. This is located at the corner of Roswell St. and Victory Dr.

Although the parade starts at 10 am, the flag is in the middle of the parade and we usually won’t start walking until after 10:20.

DETAILS: (if your first time, read everything below very carefully.
There will be no one person in charge of the event or your child.
Cub Scouts MUST have an adult in charge of them AND WITH them at all times during the walk.
Boy Scouts must have an adult or a buddy.

The parade WILL BE HOT! and could take an hour or more to walk. Younger children may not be able to walk the entire route. Make plans for picking up mid route accordingly.

Bring Water! And lots of it.
Let me repeat this… BRING WATER! We will have SOME water to refill bottles on route but we can’t assure you there will be enough to go around to the end of the parade.

And sometimes we have to say the obvious …

  • Drink the water your brought. Make sure your Scouts do, too.
  • Watch weather forecast for potential rain. Dress accordingly.
  • Wear sunscreen.
  • We recommend that toddlers and strollers NOT attend.
  • Parents walking in the parade should be able to attend to their Scouts if needed.
  • Roads near the parade start point will close at some point. You may have to walk a bit to the church.
  • Bring something for the Scouts to do to pass the time while we wait to start. (Electronics are easy, but let’s find something “scouting” for them to do instead.)
  • BSA rules forbid us from carrying or displaying any political advertisements as part of the Scout group.
  • There will be Port-a-Johns in the starting area.

The route is approx. 1.5 miles traveling along Roswell Rd past the Marietta National Cemetery. It takes a right onto East Park Street/Cherokee St in the square and ends at the corner of Cherokee and Kennesaw Ave.

There is a parking lot on the above mentioned corner that we will move into to fold the flag. (Map link pinpoints this parking lot.

We ask that you walk with your scout, but if you’re unable to, you can pick them up in this parking lot or in the parking lot next to the Cobb County Police HQ across the street OR elsewhere near this corner.

There will be a free City buses that can shuttle you back to the church
OR you can have someone waiting for you
OR you can return to the square for July 4 activities
OR watch the rest of the parade.

The popcorn sale is the perfect opportunity to teach this valuable life lesson and fund the most exciting year of Scouting ever. Over 70% of the popcorn sale support your programs and local Scouting! The Atlanta Area Council does all the pre-work to set up the sale, eliminating the need for your Unit to research opportunities, calculate returns on sales, create sales and promotional materials, manage a relationship with a vendor, etc. The popcorn sale also helps the council raise money for summer camps, offering more extensive training for our volunteer leaders and members, and creating new and exciting programs for your Scouts.

Scouts gain confidence, salesmanship and communication skills, and a sense of accomplishment. The popcorn sale is not just about selling popcorn; it’s also about promoting Scouting and the Scouting ideals!

Congratulations to Our New OA Members!

The Chapter would like to congratulate all our new members who braved the weather this past weekend up at Woodruff Scout Camp during their Induction weekend! Although we had a fair amount of rain Saturday afternoon and night, over all the weather was pretty good. Our chapter alone had 19 candidates get inducted into the OA and the very first female youth to be inducted in the entire Egwa Tawa Dee Lodge! Congrats everyone, you all deserve it. Chris Schornak Memorial Eagle Scout Scholarship Fund Annual Report

The Fund is currently at $23,712.00. In addition, we continue to get periodic donations –Thank you! Our goal is to sustain an annual scholarship of $1000 when the Fund reaches $50,000. The Fund continues to accept donations – these may be sent in care of Central States Bank (formerly Charter Bank), Chris Schornak Memorial Eagle Scout Scholarship Fund, 3324 Canton Rd, Marietta, GA 30066. We will award our seventh scholarship this year. The 2019 Scholarship will be $500. The application will be available through the Foothills District Website. The deadline for applying is April 15, 2019. The Scholarship Award will be made at the Flag Placement Ceremony at Marietta National Cemetery on May 25, 2019. Eagle Scouts who are High School Seniors or are currently enrolled in a college, university, vocational school or junior college are eligible. They must have lived in Cobb County at
the time of earning the Rank of Eagle Scout or have been the member of a Venture Crew/Boy Scout Troop chartered in Cobb County at the time of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. See the application for additional information. If you have questions, you may contact me at 770-516-9120.
