Schornak Scholarship Winner

Congratulations to Ryan T., Troop 479, who was awarded the 2014 Chris Schornak Eagle Scout Memorial Scholarship. This was the first year that the scholarship was awarded.  The scholarship fund was established in honor of Chris Schornak, a Cobb Count Eagle Scout who was killed in action in Iraq in 2006. Pictured are members of the Schornak family, along with Ryan. The award was presented on May 24, 2014, at the annual Decoration of Graves in preparation for the Memorial Day ceremony at Marietta National Cemetery. More information about the scholarship may be found on the Chris Schornak Eagle Scout Memorial Scholarship page.

Memorial Day Flag Placement 2014

The Foothills District and the National Memorial Day Assocation of Georgia want to thank more than 1800 Scouts, adult volunteers and family members who came out on Saturday, May 24, 2014, to place flags on the graves of military veterans at Marietta National Cemetery.  This service project is carried out each year in preparation for the Memorial Day Ceremony that takes place on Monday.  The May 26th Memorial Day Ceremony is open to the public, and Scouting families are encouraged to attend.  This is a great opportunity to see the ceremony we assist in preparing for, and to participate with our community in honoring our nation's fallen heroes.
